Expedition (n.) -  a journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration

In September 2017, 34 third-grade students and 14 supportive adults packed up their belongings and made the 1-hour trip from Minneapolis to Lake Maria State Park, taking our Learning Expedition, "Honoring Special Places", out into the field. For the next two days, students hiked, explored, journaled, and mapped their way through the park, all the while collecting special memories.

Back at school, the students learned how to choose a small, specific memory, streeetch it out to show lots of detail, and write about it using juicy words and proper writing conventions.

Scroll down to see a student-made map of Lake Maria State Park, and click on a location to read and listen to the stories written by students who have special memories of that place. Journey with the students as they race up to a lookout, roast the perfect marshmallow, search the night sky for constellations, and giggle through a night in a tent! After reading, scroll all the way to the bottom to leave some feedback for the hardworking students!
